I've a friend who's going to be getting a sample who knows a good bit on quilts and down. I'll ask him what he thinks when he's had a look at it. I'll let you all know.

If it's gotta be downproof, I may be able to run another sale on the 1.1 Olive Green as well which I am sure is downproof (at least, the stuff I have left over is - the first roll was not calendared, all the others were).

I was planning on a down UQ also, if this is not down proof I would like to wait on the Olive Green, but I will wait till you know for sure.

These are just all potential orders, I know, but just getting a running tally of what folks may likely want. After this weekend I'll repost this list to the Group Buy forum - from there, you can add or remove your orders - just put a post in that thread when it starts.

I didn't know what calendering was so I looked it up on Wikipedia. Do you think that this process is necessary to make the weave tight enough to hold down feathers?? I don't know anything about it other than what I've read on these two pages, but I wouldn't think that it would matter.

You raise a good point Mr Soda. I think calendering does something other than just insure that the fabric is just down proof. It also makes the fabric considerably more WIND proof which I feel is just as, or more important that being down proof.

Outer shell fabric for an under quilt is tricky business I feel. If it is too windproof it borders on water proof and we know that is mostly bad. If it is not windproof enough, the wind can then rob of us our precious stored heat. Fabric distributors sometimes give the fabric a CFM rating that relates to it ability to let air pass though. If I remember right, less than 5cfm is a good thing.

    just my 2 cents.
