One certainly could use soft shackles with the whoopie slings. I will probably carry a couple of short whoopie slings for a few trips, just in case I have really large trees and need to use the most of the 10 foot strap length for the trees. I usually don't need straps longer than 7 to 10 feet, since most places I go regularly have trees with around 2.5 to 3 feet circumference, but I did max out my 7 footers on the Greenbrier River Rail Trail in WV. I had to shop around for smaller trees. I did get my straps out to the garage for a nap (uh, I mean test). They worked very well.

My current setup is whoopie hook suspension, larks headed onto dutch's regular poly huggers. They work fine, but the adjustability of a lightweight daisy chain hugger is really tempting.

My dilemma: After a year or two of use, the larks head knot on my current straps are really tight, to the point that I don't think I can untie them.
If I get some of these new straps, I would probably need to also get a new set of whoopies.

Anyone have any luck untying amsteel-to-polyester strap larks head knots?

First pull the webbing loop straight with the amsteel in the middle. That should make it so you can undo the larks head.

Nope, it is loops that would have no hope of gripping

Wow. My knot challenged brain would have never figured out something so simple. I tried it, and got the larks head undone within about two minutes.
    Thank you, sir.

P.S. I will still buy another set of whoopies at some point anyway, since I hope to get my step-son to hang with me. Maybe next spring.

These are great!! I was considering trying the original daisy chains but this is better! I have camo poly tree straps which I Marlin Spike to my whoopies. For some reason I really like the marlin spike deal and I am thinking as someone else mentioned earlier, that you could use these in marlin spike configuration as well. Just slide your spike in the loop and the whoopie loop around that on the strap, not the toggle, of course.

I used these straps this past weekend with my new WBRR and I found out that the extra length that hangs down unused, I was able to clip my 0deg HG Incubator to another loop— and it worked out great.

The only thing that worried me was that rain could potentially travel straight down the strap to the underquilt.

dutchclips setup on the continuous loop would seem like a light and easy setup to attach to the loops?
