    1. Use the spout it came with to fill. ( this prevents overfilling)
    2. Place in protective pouch it comes with.

Follow those simple rules and youll stay safe and warm. They are amazing and hands down 50x better and last 10x longer than hot hands.
    My 2 cents.

Things always go right until they don't.

    Food for thought....

Here is another Zippo option. Looks like they too are going the battery direction.

That 6-hour is kind of big, for what it is. Dead weight the rest of your trip once it's used. But the battery option sound nice for being clean and simple....as long as they work OK. I never tried one.

If we're going electric, then I want some additional features.

I want one in each shoe/boot. I specifically want to be able to program it with a phone and tell it to turn on an hour or so before I'm getting up in the morning so my shoes are warm and toasty.

LOL my dad uses those for deer hunting. But I never asked him how well they work. I guess anything is better than nothing when you’re just sitting there idle for hours. Just a plain old remote, no smart phone stuff.

I've thought about the Zippo hand warmers but didn't like the weight or the variability of the heat output (or potential fuel leakage). I've used the Nalgene hot water bottle and even if you have good insulation it's very nice to have something in bed with you pumping out the BTUs for hours. I get around 4 hours before the bottle gets too cold and if I'm up watering the ground I often spend a couple of minutes boiling the water again to recharge the Nalgene while I have a bite to eat to fuel the furnace.

    Scrope’s Post #38 nailed it.

Gear that does double duty and delivers max result with minimal potential for harm is a worthy goal.

Side note: While scrolling first aid apps to document why warmth at pulse points works (wrist, groin), I found Army First Aid. Check it out.
