    Huh?

From the page on Clark's website for the Z-Liner 270...

A typical camper using a high quality sleeping bag can sleep in this model down to approximately 32 F (0 C) without adding insulation and down to approximately 55 F (13 C) without adding insulation. The addition of the Z-Liner will allow you to sleep down to at least 20 F (-6 C). This is a conservative estimate. Many customers report sleeping comfortably into single digits Farenheit when also using a high quality sleeping bag.
What are they trying to say here (bolded text)?

    No sleeping bag = 55F
    Sleeping bag = 32F
    Add the Z-liner = 20F
    Z-Liner + sleeping bag = below 10F possibly

    Am I getting this right?

Reason I'm asking is that right now Clark has a 20% off deal OR free Z-Liner. Kinda miss the Clark I had before for it's 4-season capability. Might add it again for winter hanging.

This sounds a lot like "ad speak" to me so I wouldn't let that sway me. In a hammock you will need bottom and top insulation once it drops below the mid 60's and more of it as the temps go down.

Sounds right to me and I own the NX270. With both covers closed it does get a little warm inside but I do use a UQ. Didn't get the z- liner when I bought mine. That being said I have successfully used my 20 degree Wookie with top quilt I didn't like their tarp so switched to the WB Superfly and swear I'm ready for anything. Of course it's not UL.

Would the NX270 require a tarp, or is it water tight?

The Weathershield is breathable water resistant, so you still need a tarp. It might protect you from drizzle but outright rain I would use a tarp.

First, the breathable WeatherShield zips in to transform the hammock into an enclosed tent, providing warmth, a wind break, or extra protection from rain and snow.
The key there is "extra protection"...not primary protection.

I already have an HG Incubator 20 UQ so for cold weather hanging I was considering putting on the UQ then adding the Z-Liner on top of that to see how it does.

Tarp definitely needed! As they say experience is the best teacher and I made the no tarp mistake.
