Neat system for carrying small cord

Currently I just keep it bundled up in an old sailing technique that's supposedly "no tangle" but it usually tangles anyway, or it's a PITA to get a small piece out and re-wrap it.

    https://gearward.com/products/compac...ival-cord-mini

Came across this website that sells cordage in these little pop-up spools! Cool, but out of stock.

I found the spools on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Has anyone tried them before? I've ordered a handful, and will see.

Not "Ultralight" but could be good for wrapping up guy lines or ridgelines, or just carrying spare cord.

I keep telling myself I'm going to order something similar, but just haven't gotten around to it yet. I had my eyes on a version from Litesmith. They have a few sizes available and I've just been waiting to add one on the next time I place an order with them. I had intended on using them to carry or store extra coradge.

Let us know how those you found work out.

Those look exactly the same as the ones I found on Amazon, I should have them within the week!

That chart is AWESOME for determining the length of cord I can possibly fit on them. It looks like the ones I ordered are the "small" size.

Based on that chart, I also ordered a set of the 2.5" ones. The 1.875" ones could be good for tarp tie-outs.

The figure-8 hank between my thumb and pinky finger has worked fine for the last 20 years (and it's free). The tangle problem with most people is that they just wind it in a coil which puts many, many twists into the cord. When you go to uncoil it, you'll end up with a mess. The figure-8 basically puts one twist clockwise and then another twist counterclockwise so the net result is no twist. I do this with rope, extension cords, guylines, etc.

I use these for storing chenille used for fly tying. http://www.oasisbenches.com/images/C...eCenterSet.jpg
They work well for that purpose and should work well to store small quantities of zing it or lash it. The ones I have are small and not sure how much cord each would hold.

Link is in the first post.

    Basically just search "Macrame bobbins.

And zukiguy: I do basically the same thing, but I like being able to grab a few feet, cut, and use it, without undoing a bundle. It's an experiment, and at a buck or so each, why not!

The same gearward webside sells them with waxed jute cord in them, and I may do that as well. Great keychain tinder holder. (Or attached to the lanyard loop on the steel itself)

I've been doing a figure 8, but still manage some tangles based on the line that I've been using (1mm 300 lb braided fishing line)
These look interesting.... I had started to contemplate a kite winder for my tarp's CRL:

Interesting... I've been purchasing desoldering braid wound on similar spools for years. And I've been throwing them away when they were empty!
