I’ve been lurking for about a year. I guess it’s time to introduce myself. My husband, daughter, our dog and I have been hammock camping for a year. We started out with WBBBs and my daughter had a Hennessy Cub. I just got a chameleon. Haven’t spent my first night in it yet, but I love it. I’m always experimenting with ways to camp with my dog. I’m a dog trainer and groomer by trade. We never go anywhere without our girl.

Are there alligators at Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge?

• Although seldom seen, American alligators do inhabit the Refuge. In the 1970’s, the alligator population had been reduced drastically, so 50 alligators were released here in an effort to help restore the species which at that time was federally listed as threatened. An estimated 40-50 alligators currently inhabit Wheeler NWR and at least one active nest was located during the summer of 2001.

Interesting! I think it was last year they found an 8 footer in the Chattahoochee River around Atlanta. She had been living there for several years.
