    Rain Noise Test

We had rain in the forecast so I did a quick experiment between my Cuben Fiber Tarp vs. my Sil-Poly, to see if the CF was noticeably louder than the sil-poly. Check it out!!

"If you're listening to rain hit your tarp, it means you're outside, and life is good." Amen, brother!

If you wanted to get really nerdy, you could use an instrument to measure decibels... ah, of course, there are multiple apps for that.

I do know that my last trip with my silpoly, under hurricane remnant torrential rain, the sound was nice... until it came time to actually go to sleep, and then I had to use earplugs. (And sprint back to the car to get them. )

Thanks for the comment!! I think there’s a fine line between enjoying the rain and man it’s really coming down!! Lol.

I got rid of my Cuben Fiber as I "thought" it was too loud but after seeing this video I couldn't tell a lot of difference. That's the beauty of getting older and loosing your hearing as well Thanks for taking the time to do this.

I have a couple of cuben fiber tarps from Hammock Gear. Love them

the beauty of getting older and loosing your hearing as well
That explains why I don't notice the noise when its raining

I understand there is a lot of hype on certain subjects that seem almost law here. Like a candle lantern hanging from the ridge line. I'm finding that the popular opinion is one I don't agree with.

This video made me feel more comforted under the Cuban, like a tin roof. The other was like being trapped inside a car in a storm. You have defiantly proven that there is NOT a significant difference in level, just tone really. Now if the price would come down...

Thank you for doing this and I subbed.

You have defiantly proven that there is NOT a significant difference in level,
at low level rain...need to redo test under different rain conditions.

Regardless, I am keeping my cuben tarps

You really need to have an active imagination to believe that cuben fiber is "louder" in any measurable degree. However, if you want to believe it, more power to you!
