Moding my gear guide 12x12 tarp

I've just become good enough with my thread injector to mod my gear guide 12x12 tarp for use as a winter tarp. I've started by sewing strips to use as ties to close up the doors. It has taken a long time to make just a few and they have turned out terrible . Does anyone know of anything that can be bought off of the shelf and sewn on to be used as ties? Would small webbing be too stiff to be used as a tie? Any Thoughts? Thanks!

Grosgrain ribbon would work. Scott (BWDD) uses mitten hooks.

One of my tents had ties built from the same fabric as the tent body.
I did a few ties from the sil material. I cut a strip of fabric, about an inch wide, 5 or 6 inches long, folded it over three times, on the skinny side. Ran a row of stitching down the middle of the folded strip. approx. 3/8" wide X 6" long tie.
I've also used just a regular shoelace or hunk of string, works fine too.
I actually liked the string, especially if its different color or reflective cord. Makes it easier to find at night. ymmv

I just remembered...Hawk-eye uses that tarp in a winter configuration...have a chat with him before going any farther.
