I'll agree that the J-Bend is easier to release. But I find it to be more difficult when it comes to adjusting. The tie/untie, repeat process is a snick more of a headache than with the Beckett (which also isn't the best when it comes to adjusting)..

I've come really like a simple UCR with button knots and sliders for adjusting. So easy to do. I am still using the becket/j-bend in place of a MSH for attaching the ucr's eye to the strap. I am working on a SLS for my UL kit that will use the beckett/j-bend for connecting directly to the CL, but that isn't finalized.

If you have a UCR--- you can tie a slip knot about an inch from bury exit. If UCR slips---the slip knot can't be pulled into bury--its too big and won't slip.

I've damaged my hand trying to undo slip knots! That burns like the devil.

Still not loving the dyneema straps. Are Dutch Dyneema and the Myerstech dyneema straps the same? I really don't like how the dyneema bunch's up when put under tension. Ended up buying another set of Dutch's Kevlar straps in 15'.

I'd like to see a pic/vid of that 'slip knot in the ucr' you're describing.. is it in one of your many videos? I haven't had my current ucr's slip, but wouldn't mind an extra level of precaution..

I pinch the webbing on the CL with one hand and pull the becket up and underneath the cl and through the loop over the cl with the other. I need to video this...

    Switched to Dyneema Straps (Myerstech)

Makes it a real challenge to get the strap laying flat on the next set of trees. It's essentially like rope instead of a flat strap. Kevlar stays flat no matter what I do with it. I already ordered my third set of kevlar straps.. six foot, eight foot and now a set of fifteen foot to replace the dyneema.
I’ve noticed that as well. You may as well use mule tape for the adjustable portion. There isn’t anything lighter for suspension than 2.2 Kevlar tied off with a becket hitch.

I took a sip of the dyneema Kool-Aid and it ain't all that.

I don't mind adding a few feet of Amsteel for the UCR, but my days of all the hardware are gone..

A couple of nights ago in the Catskills at 14°F, with 3.3 Kevlar straps... J-bend on one end (nearest camera) and Becket on the other end.

After a 10-hour snooze neither was terribly hard to remove but the J-bend was definitely easier. I am starting to develop a sense for how a good hang should look, and it took only a couple of small tweaks to get it just right. I bought 15ft straps and might cut them down to 12 or 10 feet with a bit of experience.

Pretty neat stuff and gives me even more ideas with suspension to play with. Thanks for sharing

Here is a good video showing method of trying tree strap to loop.

I had tried that larks head technique when I first saw this video, but as he cautions, the larks head can get pretty tight and bothersome to untie. I have a locked whipping knot slider on my CL's to secure the CL around a button knot at the end of the UCR which I use from time to time (ucr attached to tree strap via MSH, J-Bend or Beckett, and CL drops over a button knot in the end of the ucr). When I choose to use straps only (dyneema or kevlar.. doesn't matter) the slider snugs the CL onto the strap so the hammock doesn't fall to the ground...the same way he does it in the vid.

I continue to use the BH without much fuss or muss gus.

Simple Knot. Simple strap. and light.
