Just got back from a week of hanging.

I only mention this because we experienced monsoon like rains for a couple of days and my Claytor Jungle hammock stayed as dry as the proverbial bone. I was very pleasantly surprised. The water was pouring off that tarp like a river. I've also switched from the ring system to the CC buckles and haven't looked back. Headchange4u was kind enough to send me a set of buckles and attachment straps for the mere cost of shipping. Here's a public shout out for that kind gesture. I greatly prefer the buckles over the rings. There are zero concerns with slippage and since I don't have a ridgeline I have no problems creating enough slack to loosen them. There's no need to tie a security knot as some are doing to backup the rings. Water dripped to the ground right where the buckles attached. I'm also using biners for attaching the strap around the tree which allows the entire system to remail intact. It is truly a sweet system. I had to drag my ground dwelling friends out of there so I could go to sleep at night. Oh yeah.....I slept like a baby.

Glad to hear you had a good trip and stayed dry. Even though slippage isn't a problem for me with the rings, I've been thinking about giving the buckles another go.

Miguel, glad you had a good hang and stayed dry, man. Few things are good for the soul like a good trip and a dry hang in wet weather. Personally, HC is a totally cool guy, I count myself lucky to be close to someone with the experience, know how and friedliness that guy's got.

my only concern w/ the cc buckles is that you are putting a great force on a sharp bend in the webbing.
the ring buckles do that over a rounded surface.
my concerns may be unfounded though, especially w/ a highly rated webbing.
i just know i've broken two types of webbing.
BTW... HAPPY 4th of JULY all you U.S. hammockers!!!

Tim, which types of webbing did you break? I'm guessing one could be nylon? Inquiring minds want to know (how to avoid the same mistake).

one type was the 1" polyester webbing that wal-mart sells in the fabric dept.
i've not herd of anyone else having that happen, but i suspect that their source probably doesn't have the highest quality control standards, so all that webbing may not be uniform. just my thoughts.
the other (i hate to say) was the speer 1" webbing. but i had it stretched quite a bit farther than normal & put a lot of stretching on a new piece of webbing all at once.
never herd of any one having the speer webbing fail them either.
BTW... i'm a little above or below 200lb in weight.

Sounds like a great trip. I think the slippage comes from how tight the 2 rings are. The tighter they are the less mine seem to slip.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

    Miguel,

I'm glad the buckles worked out for you and I'm glad you stayed dry in your Claytor.

I'm using the 1" straps from strapworks that are rated at 3500 lbs. I'm VERY impressed with those straps. They look and feel beefier than than any other 1" straps I've dealt with in the past. There was also zero detectable stretch in them during the entire week, including the period of heavy rain.
