    Remedial Hammock Design

I've spent months trying to get my head around all the 'Mods,' the Knotty Mod, Foot Boxes, The Asymmetrical, the dreaded Hammock Death Twist.... With the help of Knotty, I think I might understand more of it now.

Attached are my notes. Interested in what people think.
Are there a tips for the slit method pocket that result in a better lay?

If I'm wrong, please correct me before I do something that gets me hurt....

    Will

I would be very hesitant to cut triangles into your Eno. That is parachute nylon, which is famous for running. I think your best bet is to add a footbox. You can make it deep.
    I sew things on youtube.
I don’t sew on commission, so please don’t ask. Thanks.

As I understand it, you are thinking of reverse engineering you Eno hammock, yes?
Considering the time and effort involved, I feel you would be better served selling the Eno to fund 4 yards of 1.6oz Hexon (or HyperD) and make a real basic 11 - 11.5' gathered end hammock. So much less work involved, and if you go for a whipped end, you can play around with the whipping to change the lay,

Thanks, I think it would unethical to sell an Eno JungleNest to another person.

The cutting will be on the bug net, and the add-on, will be a panel of ripstop sewn to the bottom.
I did finally see a Dream Hammock Raven that seems to be everything the JungledNess could've been but isn't.
My notes on Knotty's Mod et al will be from scratch.

I've made a couple of masonite Sail Loft Sewing Tables for my backyard shop, and today I drove a couple of 2s4s into the ground for a back yard hang. So I'm about ready to start my projects.

    2x4 might snap
If I had to use 2x4 posts to hang hammock---I'd angle them at 30 degrees and also set suspension at 30 degrees and use a top rail to hold everything together above tarp ridgeline.
    2x4 have busted---
    Good luck

Regarding Knotty Mods: I did some searching just the other day to see where the best place to put them was. Seems like the majority prefer them on the foot end. Some folks say that they like them on the head end to keep their pillow from falling out, but most people don't care for the fabric being pulled tight right up alongside their head/face. So, I put mine on the foot end. It seems to help some with the floppy-ness of that side of the fabric, but doesn't seem to change the comfort or lay of the hammock. Adding a "footbox" to the head end would probably have a similar effect. And speaking of footboxes, the half-circle footbox attachment is a real nice thing to add and very easy. I believe original credit for this style of footbox goes to MedicineMan and Hangnout, but I used Jellyfish's pattern to build mine. I haven't seen the "slit + add" style before now. It seems like it might lay flatter, but potentially be weaker.

As a side note, you might be over thinking this. Just a thought.
