Excellent Scruffy ... definitely a thread I'm subscribing to ... can't wait to see your further results. I'm like you ... I think that lapped seam should seal up nicely since it was coated AFTER sewing ... I could be wrong ... I have been before!

I got to see how the tarp did in the rain today. WHOOOOOOOOO Buddy ( i have been watching Shugs videos sorry about that) man I am really impressed. I only have two spots that need a touchup and they are tiny spots too. And the bad spots are at the bottom end of the tarp. I am so happy and so is the wife since I I only have about $8.00 in this tarp as compared to a $100.00 + store bought one.

Man look at that water bead and run off. I will get a finally weight on the tarp when I decide to bring it back inside, as of now I am going back outside and play under my DIY sil nylon Tarp

That's impressive ... have you or are you going to try a test with a garden hose to see if you get any spray through with a bit of pressure? Might also be interesting to cup a large section and fill it with water to see if it leaks through ... say over night in the shower or some place you can see if it leaks.

    REALLY Great ...

What materials/brands of product did you use to make the mixture?

No I didnt think of the shower test, but I will have to give it a try. As far as the mixture I used the walmart store brand of 100 precent silicon 4 ounces and SherwinWilliams low odor minerial spirits 16 ounces. Be advised the measurements ARE weight ounces not fluid ounces. Then I mixed the mixture untill I couldn't see any more silicon globs, about 20 mintues mixtime. Then I put the tarp in a big bowl and let it soak up the mixture, and I started ringing and squishing the tarp for about another 20 mintues. there was no waste and I did not wipe down the tarp. Finally I hung it out to dry and staked it out like you see in the pictures.

I think the outside temp was about 40 degrees so that helped with pot life of the mixture.

I did the cup test with a sample before I made the tarp and used the same mix ratio and it did not leak for two days I tested it. there was 2 cups of water used in the test.

I will update when I do the shower pressure test

    Till next time ...
