I like doing some testing in my backyard and taking some notes because I will definitely forget otherwise. But you are crushing me! You've done 9 nights in a row (that I can see in your screenshot) and you have recorded every possible parameter captured in a spreadsheet. Incredible .

Thank you for sharing what you use

Thank you Shug. Your video was very helpful. Coincidentally the "Similar Threads" section below my post led me to this same video - nice feature of the forums. Again, thank you for the really helpful video!

You all have definitely answered my question. My overall take-away is that I still need insulation under legs and feet, but maybe just not as much. I can move on to the next step in my hammock journey which is figuring out exactly how I want to configure some pads and what pads I want to use. I may make an SPE or come up with something else. For the simple testing I did last night in my backyard I used some aluminum foil tape to attach four 7" x 20" wings (cut from blue CCF foam pad from Walmart) to my 20" x 72" Z-Lite. The tape ended up tearing but got me through the night. I chose it so I wouldn't gum up my pads with adhesive residue like normal duct tape would. It did the trick for one night but definitely won't cut it for multiple nights in the backcountry.

The results were not bad. It got down to 38 deg and I stayed warm all around. I slept most of the night in my REI Lumen (synthetic) bag in the normal way. My feet got a little cool because the end of my hammock is open and the end of my bag is right at the opening. I just pulled my feet in a little and that took care of that. For the last couple hours, I flipped my bag over like a top quilt with my feet in the foot box and the zipper up to my calves. In that configuration my back did get cool. So apparently my bag was providing some warmth when I used it in the normal configuration even though it was compressed between my back and the Z-Lite.

I'm trying to get a system that will work down to about 30 deg for occasional winter camping here in Texas and for Colorado in the summer.
