Yet another Chameleon clone...

I managed to complete a few projects over the holiday break, including this Chameleon-clone. It's an 11' double layer 2.2 Hex70 XL (I'm a big fella who appreciates a healthy safety margin). I used Dutch's 121" Vision zippers, so it's compatible w/ Chameleon bug nets & top covers. In fact, that's a stock Chameleon net in the pics. Whole thing comes in @ 36.1oz (with bug net attached).

Also wanted to give a shout out to Kitsapcowboy for the extraordinarily helpful posts on his own Chameleon clones, as well as to Dutch for making his proprietary zippers available to the DIY community and just being an all-around decent sort of chap.

Thinking about trying my hand at making a winter top cover next, possibly out of Ion as opposed to Argon. Thoughts?

Wanted to try something a little different for the ridgeline organizer, so I used a scrap of pocket mesh from RSBTR's remnants instead of Noseeum. Negligible weight penalty, and I like it better so far. We'll see how it compares in terms of durability.

Nice work! I did the same for my new 1.2 robic hammock. I just ordered his bug net and zipper and put it on my own hammock. Super easy and still saves some money while allowing you to use materials from RSBTR.

Looks awesome! I’ve got a double layer chameleon coming next week, but I’m curious to see how the layers are sewn. I’ve seen dutch’s Video where he shows that it accepts a pad between the layers, but I haven’t been able to find a good picture of how the layers are sewn. Is it just partially stitched lengthwise on one side? Did you do yours the same way? Love that color scheme you went with.

Yep, I believe the stock chameleon will come partially stitched along one side (both layers hemmed individually, then attached together with an opening for the pad). I skipped that step on this clone and joined the two layers with no openings, because I’m never going back to sleeping on a pad, lol.

Awesome, thank you for clarifying that for me, I probably could have found it if I looked hard enough, but like you, I more than likely won’t be using a pad (live in FL, almost never gets cold enough to even need a pad). I mostly like the idea of the DL for the added mosquito protection, which can be really bad here in swamplandia, and the extra support/durability. I still like the idea that I could squeeze a pad in there if I ever really had to though, just in case. Thanks for the response, I appreciate it
