    Australia Bound!!!!

After 6 months of waiting and I think a total of 20 hours of actual planning I am off for Australia tomorrow!!!!!! My copilot on this magic carpet ride is my friend Eivind (pronounced Ivan).

The plan, in the loosest sense of the word, is to motorcylce from Sydney to Perth with small detours to Tazmania and Alice Springs over 5 and a half weeks.

Here is a link to the journal we are doing. Not too much there yet. The plan is to use some of the 25 hours in the air to put the finishing touches on it. Not looking forward to the direct LA to Sydney 18 hour flight.

I will have to admit I bought a tent yesterday for this. Not too many tress in the Outback. But the hammock is still going with me. To top this off it will make continent number 3 for hiking and hanging my DIY setup in my quest for all 7.

How wonderful! Have a great trip. My family went to Australia about 6 years ago for 3 weeks. Landed in Sydney, played around there for a week then headed north car camping through brush country (not really outback but really cool stuff) and ended up at Airlie Beach and played around in the ocean / barrier reef. Then came back to Sydney by way of the coast. Trip of a lifetime. Sydney is everything they say about it and more!

Have to say that long flight from LA to Sydney was sooooooooooooooo boring, but they give you lots of movies to watch. At least on Quantas they did. And the flight attendants were first rate. No worries! Watch out for the kangaroos on the roads! Most of the cars have those "roobars" on the front. On a bike, you'll just have to stay alert! We did a lot of driving but didn't have a problem, but you'd see the roo kill on side of road like what we have here with deer.

One of the best quotes I read online about this said something to the face that there are 3 things you need to watch out for. Kangaroos, water buffalo, and wild boar. If you hit them the first 2 will kill you, the last one will kill you then eat you. Got to love the humor.

The BMW GS adventure bikes. Did the math and it was worth it to pay a little extra to rent them over the smaller bikes.
