Hi.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a 1-2 night backpacking trip for the end of Feb near Norfolk VA?
Also what the weather may be like.
Camping from the car is also an option, but getting out and away is preferable.
Thanks in advance

Urduja, there are a couple of parks on the coast from Norfolk to Nags Head, NC. There are a couple of park down by the Virginia and North Carolina state line. If you want drive about an hour southwest of Norfolk, Merchants Mill Pond has a primitive camp area as well as a pull up sites. The primitive site are in the middle of a roughly 5 mile loop trail. ( just bring extra water). Your also have the mountains a few hours west.

Hey Urduja....not sure how far you are willing to drive but the SNP is an option....maybe 3 hours from Norfolk. I don't know if the car camping sites are open but I'm pretty sure the primitive sites are. As far as the weather conditions in that area at the end of Febuary....cold!

Thank you. The 3 hours will be alright. It's close to the limit time wise, but worth the sacrifice for a good getaway.
I'm in Front Royal and the current temp is 26 dropping to 12 overnight. Make sure you check temps as the water sources may be frozen depending when you come.
If you do go to Shenandoah it will be 10-20 degrees cooler than Norfolk due to the altitude. Be prepared.
You can primitive camp there off of a trail. They don’t allow fires though.
They have campgrounds that you can stay at that are near trails and have bathrooms, showers, and small stores that sell the essentials.
Hardcore....SNP in the winter. Can you say Vanilla Ice?
If your want to go the direction of SNP, you can also turn south in Waynesboro and follow Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway. Not only will you get is some good hiking time, you get a beautiful scenic ride. If your lucky, you’ll get to catch a glimpse of VA’s Elk herd. The kids and I were lucky enough to spot some near Poplar Gap a couple years ago.
