    Wind Chill?

How often is wind chill truly considered in TQ performance?

Recently I have noticed the "feels like temp is sometimes 10° lower than the actual temp.

    Screenshot at 2018-01-05 10:19:56.png

Just curious because my 25° UQ outperforms my 30° and my 10° TQs.

I have been down to 12°(actual temp not feels like..no wind chill factored in) and my UQ hasn't failed yet. (Greylock 3 +1 oz.) I leave it outside 24/7 as well.

I suspect it is due to the 2QZQ Argon 90 UQP.

I bought 2 yards (from Dutch) as test for the TQs.

Also...It maybe that I am breathing inside my TQ affecting the down performance.

TQ seemed "almost damp" this morning....around 8am...def moisture near the head end.

Breathing inside the TQ is definitely hurting your quilt performance. There's a lot of moisture in your breath. No matter how hydrophobic a down advertises itself to be, performance will still be affected. Keeping your head out will make a big difference. The UQP is helping with your UQ. Site setup can make a huge difference too to mitigate the effects of the wind. Setting up with the wind coming across your tarp instead of through the ends like a wind tunnel will make both your top and bottom feel a lot warmer.

You mentioned several things that I need to consider. I have one side of the tarp with doors partially open.

and the breathing.....sometimes into the quilt liner & sometimes into the quilt.

Point is....I am definitely negating the TQ performance somehow.

Breathing and tarp doors are suspects.

If I start out with the quilt liner I usually don't have issues.

Last night I started without it. Retrieved it @ 2am & 16°...slept until 8am...woke up cold.

    snip...
I think it is considered a lot.
Many use a +10 degree buffer when choosing what quilt set to buy or bring.
Many buy covered hammocks to block wind blowing across the TQ.

The whole idea of a hammock is to have that outdoor feel , enveloping it in a tarp with doors seems to restrict that although it is nice to have a closed in tarp in a deep winter situation as snow seems to stick to everything and sneak in at all angles .
I am a Aussie hammock camper and I mostly go out to our alpine high country in winter , it will never get below -5 c , my UQ is -7 c and TQ is -12c
It’s plenty enough unless I have a open tarp the wind slips under the uq and removes the heat , my warmest option is my (uk made) tenth wonder bivi hammock , it’s a dual skin so the uq has a loose cover to protect the uq and a closed in hammock which really helps keep you warm

Not really. The whole idea of a hammock is to sleep better.

My outdoor feeling lost out last night to a red/grey quilt over my Hudson River.

No tarp. Wind Chill was 22° and the wind was 10mph on my deck.
