VA: Grayson Highlands State Park - Camping in the campground

I went to Grayson highlands state park the weekend before the 4th of July last year for 2 days and then went on and hiked the AT from catawba to daleville. I really loved Grayson highlands and me and some friends are thinking about going there the week of the 4th of July this year and doing car camping in the campground.

from the people that's been to the campground is their a campsite I should reserve that's good for 1 tent and 2 hammocks?

    thanks

I've been wondering how the car camping up there would be. Been backpacking there 2x and its a sweet place.

The sites backing up onto the group site will probably be your best bet, but you can probably make it work at a lot of the standard tent sites...however, I'd bet that it's going to be extremely busy that weekend, so you probably will need to reserve your site really early in the year.

that's why I'm trying to get information now. I've never been to the campground so how would I know which sites back up to the group sites? I've looked at the map on their website and it doesn't show the group sites. I sent an email to them on the 7th asking them but never heard back from them

Bummer that they don’t have pics of each site. That’s typically what I use to at least get an idea.
I’ve camped in the SP once and don’t recall the campsite number. Good luck in your search.
Did you try to call them? I see a Phone number when I Google it but I’m not sure if it’s any good

Looking at the ReserveAmerica map of the sites, it's the low-numbered sites (001, 003, 005, 007, 009, 011, 013, 015) are the ones backing up to the group site.

I looked at my reservation from last year and I did not see a site number. I think it was 45 or so. We drove through the campground and picked a site that would work for us. I am not sure but feeling like it is 45. We had two hammocks and you could put tent on pad. We stayed there and rode the Ava Creeper.
