    Cuben fiber tarp - greenhouse

When reading, i noticed that one of the complaints on the cuben tarps is the greenhouse effect because of the transparency. Basically they get a little hot, especially in the warmer climates.

I was wondering if this is still the case with colored cuben.

For example HG camo cuben tarps.

I have had a cuben fiber tarp with doors for years and never felt they got any warmer than any other tarp. In fact, I think that the darker and camo colors would produce more warmth. All you have to do is open a door or two, or I usually go in porch mode if too warm.

If it's hot enough that the tarp is causing the green house affect due to the sun shinning through it's time to put the tarp up in the snake skins.

Some people use tarps for shade. The CF tarp sucks for providing shade no matter what color. Any greenhouse effect could be eliminated by raising the tarp a little.

Pretty much this -- just one reason why in my locality I relegate my CF hex tarp to shoulder season use almost exclusively.

Totally agree. I have a camo and a green CF tarp and neither provide shade.

I rarely lounge in my hammock during the day. However, when I have lounged, the greenhouse effect is present with every tarp I've owned - silnylon, polyester, and cuben fiber. If the sun is beating down, you're probably going to get hot. Still, you are hanging from trees, so trees provide shade.

For loungers, I'd question why one would consider cuben fiber - it's more for hikers who are concerned about weight (and hikers probably aren't going to be lounging in the midday sun - they're going to be hiking).

Yep! I've had my hammock gear for years and I've never lounged more than a couple of times and it definitely wasn't in weather that I would use a tarp for shade. I guess it depends on where you are from. Here in the South East the humidity would drive one out of a hammock even with the provided shade especially if you are feeling the green house affect.

I use my cuben HG WinterPalace in winter. The greenhouse is a plus in that scenario. But in summer,Dutch's Xenon Hex is an awesome tarp and still not that heavy.Mine weighs about a pound with lines.

What if you double the tarp up to block the sun by folding it in half longways? I suppose you could even slide a mylar blanket in there that would add about 2 oz, but it would create some good shade.
