Hi I am new to the forum and to hammock camping. I was wondering what would be a good starter setup on a budget around $500 that's including hammock, tarp and maybe top and under quilt. Hopefully if all goes well with hammock camping I can introduce my family to it as well. Thanks in advance

Hello and welcome from Northern Arkansas! If you want a complete set up for that price you can certainly do it! Cottage vendors here have some great economy gear to fit the bill. For a complete set up I'd go with a netless hammock (simple light designs, Dutch, Dream hammock, little shop of hammocks, Warbonnet), a penny pincher tarp from UGQ, and synthetics from Arrowhead Equipment, or down from Loco Libre or Hammock Gear. Let us know what route you decide on!

Hello and welcome to Hammock Forums. I won't recommend a set up to you as each of us are very, very different when it comes to comfort. I will however share some advice to help you make your own selections. Again welcome!

) Read all the sticky posts at the top of each section here at Hammock Forums. You will find all of your questions answered plus questions you have not thought of yet.

    2) Go to You Tube and watch all of Shug's videos. He will also answer all your questions but make you laugh. Leave lots of times to watch these

    3) Google The Ultimate Hang and read Derek's The Ultimate Hang pages. He does a great of explaining things you did not even know you needed to know. He also does great diagrams so it's easy to understand.

    4) Attend a Hammock Forum group hang before you invest any addition $ in your gear. There folks will show you and let you check out their gear so you can make educated decisions based on your own comfort levels

    welcome.

definitely get a tarp, underquilt and a netless hammock like peppy said and if you are car camping you can always use a sleeping bag. or for around $300 you could get hammock gear's Econ 20 degree top quilt and underquilt (http://www.hammockgear.com/econ-quilts/), for under $100 you can get a hammock and suspension from simply light designs (http://www.simplylightdesigns.com/catalog/index.php) dutch (https://dutchwaregear.com/product-ca...less-hammocks/) or dream hammock (https://www.dreamhammock.com/FreeBird.html). you can get this summer tarp for under $100 also https://dutchwaregear.com/product/tadpole-tarp/

or keep an eye out in the for sale section of this site and you may catch a good deal on any of these items.
