If weight is not an option: a couple inches of PVC pipe in a diameter that will fit the pole, just barely. Glue on end cap. Drill a hole or two in the other end of the PVC (two holes helps cordage hold the pole in place). Thread cordage through the two holes and becket hitch to the side tie outs. Insert internal pole. The pole size used must be longer than the tarp, i.e. sticks out from the edge at least a couple inches, to allow for the length of the pvc piece plus the becket hitch.
The same thing can be done with a piece of fabric sewn into a little tube, if you can sew. If you use your imagination, plenty of other ways to build this type of add-on piece.
