Where to separate the vertical and horizontal baffles for top quilt?

I'm working on modifying a Costco down throw and making a top quilt.

I really like the idea of running vertical baffles for the bulk of the quilt but then doing horizontal baffles for the feet.

To me it seems like I would just want 1 or 2 horizontal baffles - about 8" (not including the ones at the base of my feet) since the baffles are horizontal due to gravity at my feet?. However in looking at some combination designs, it seems like they come up to the knee?

    Here's an example...

The general consensus would be where the footbox connection exists. Whether it is sew,, has snaps, or a zipper, the horizontal baffles usually traverse the length of the footbox connection.

Don't know if this is really worth it for a CDT quilt.

by the time you add the faux baffles and additional down you might have well build your own from scratch. I modified a CDT to a top quilt last fall for my daughter, narrowing the quilt to 50", drawstring bottom with snaps to 24" and adding down. it is fine for her since she is only 5' 3" but does not cover my shoulders unless I bend my legs (I am 5' 10")

This was a good learning experience for my before diving into my own custom winter top quilt build, but not much more.
