PA > Clarion River Spring Paddle and Hang Planning Thread

Trying to gauge interest and check availability for a spring paddle and hang on the Clarion River starting from the town of Ridgway. There are two outfitters there to provide rentals if need be and transportation. I’m thinking one or two nights, early to mid May. What’s everyone think?

Count me and Jewelbug in for sure. First weekend in May isn't ideal, but we're good after that.

Does either the weekend of May 12th or 19th work better than the other?

    Both are currently wide open.

I did this last June. Went from Portland Mills launch to Clear Creek state park. We did it slow (floating along and fishing most of the way) and it took us 3 days.

Portland Mills to Hallton is about 10 miles and Hallton to Millstone is about 10 miles.

Alternatively, Ridgway to Arroyo is about 14 miles. Arroyo to Millstone another 15.

    Here are some maps:

I think Ridgway to Hallton is also about 19 miles. Anything in that mileage range should be a nice leisurely 2-day paddle.

Does anyone have any experience with what sort of camping opportunities are available along this section of the river? I haven’t been able to find much info on that.

North / right bank is pretty much all National Forest so we can pick a spot anywhere along that bank. Opposite side is private or state game lands so we can't camp on that side. There are a ton of spots, all are wild and fantastic. I prefer to camp below Portland Mills.
