Symmetrical Sparrow

I just noticed that the Sparrow, DangerBird and Thunderbird now have 3 options under "Lay Direction". Right Asym, Left Asym, and Symmetrical. Maybe it's been there for awhile and I missed it, but thought I'd point it out! I wonder why you would want a designated asym over a symmetrical version. Maybe slightly less bug net on the asym and, therefore, a little lighter? Also noticed that there is an order for a Sparrow with a symmetrical option, #6577. Will be watching to see what it looks like!

I think asyms are cut to provide a flatter lay with less “flappy” material. I would think a symmetrical Sparrow was basically a Raven.

You can lay both directions in a Sym. Sparrow or a Raven, but the designs are pretty different.

An asym shaped net or overcover will allow a slightly flatter lay. We are offering the symmetrical net/overcover option for those who toss & turn throughout the night.

Thanks for the clarification PapaSmurf. Good to know that the asym will offer a slightly flatter lay. Sounds like that's the way to go if one knows they are a designated right lay or left lay sleeper.

Okay, so I may be in the market for a new hammock, but now this. I usually lay head right feet left, but I can lay the other way without problem. I'd be tempted to get the symmetrical as it would give options if anyone else used it. Decisions, decisions!

Blind side Sunday punch! You don't know what a panic you caused. However, I managed to change a sym Raven to a sym Sparrow in the nick of time. Thanks for the heads up. Loved my Raven, always coveted a Sparrow, but really liked the symmetrical lay flexible choices. Now I get the best of both worlds. Now I'm so much poorer.

I would encourage the Smurfs to add this important bit of information in the hammock descriptions right next to the "The Sparrow (Dangerbird, Thunderbird) is available in 3 versions: Net Only, Overcover Only, Net & Overcover." information.
