    Middle Tennessee March 10-13

The kids are on spring break and going to the in-laws with the wife leaving me to do as I please.
I am planning a trip to Middle TN. the 10-13 no set trails yet.

Anyone interested or have suggestions. Did an overnight in Feb at Savage Gulf may return there. I have been to Big South Fork , and Fall Creek Falls. Never stayed overnight in either location just day hikes.

i have backpacked at all 3 of these area's,my favorite being savage gulf.its closer to nashville and the trail system is the best maintained,i dont like fall creek falls for backpacking, most of the scenery is accessible by car,and the trails are not maintained.big south fork is ok but on the bottom of my list also.

Fall Creek Falls is good for an overnight, but not a whole lot more probably. I would definitely choose Savage Gulf if it were me looking for a 3-4 day trip.

If you stick to the northern areas of BSF (the border and up into Kentucky), you can avoid a lot of ATV traffic and get some decent hikes, but it is still not the best backpacking area in my opinion.

If you're in the Nashville area, you might also want to consider Mammoth Cave National Park, 1 hour 45 minutes north of Nash Vegas.

A final option might be Land Between the Lakes NRA. You could do half of the 60-mile North-South Trail and have a mellow trip. I would choose the northern half which is mountain bike trail over the southern half, which is horse trail. The MB trail is solid and well-maintained. This time of year the southern half is probably pretty well churned up and muddy.

Could also do a portion of the Cumberland Trail.

Or combine Fiery Gizzard with the Savage Gulf.
