How much load is on a structural ridge line? If you wanted to go the detachable route, could you use a mini biner or do you need something more load bearing?

It really depends on how tight you string your hammock, if you follow one of the golden rules of being able to bend your Ridgeline at a 90 degree angle while laying in the hammock there's very little stress on it and a regular biner should work. I used one for several months with no issue, but it only took one hang when my Ridgeline was too tight and I tossed and turned and ended up stretching out the binder. I now use a simple soft shackle made out of the same material as my Ridgeline.
By all means, let's argue about whether or not a hammock will hurt a tree. All the while ignoring the fact that there is an island of garbage the size of Texas floating in the Pacific ocean. Or how about the fact that over 75% of the world's nuclear reactors are leaking...
It can carry a good bit of load depending on angles and tossing and turning. A mini biner would not cut it as most of those can not handle much weight at all.

I usually use a figure 8 knot forming a byte and loop it around where the suspension connects. It adds no weight and its easy to tie,
