Big Agnes just announced a new 20"x72" 3.5" thick inflatable insulated AXL air sleeping pad weighing ONLY 11.9 oz/337 g. That seems to me to be a good insurance policy if you absolutely MUST go to ground.

Winston Churchill was once insulted by a woman who said, "You Sir are Drunk!" Churchill replied, "Yes, but I shall be sober in the morning, and you will still be ugly!"

I’ve used a car windshield sun reflector on the ground and was perfectly fine. The longest I’ve used it that way was 3 nights and I was a bit achy, but no more than I usually get sleeping on the ground on an inflatable pad.

That said, I have a reputation among my friends and family for being able to sleep almost literally anywhere, so I’d try it out before you go.
