When are you going? I may join you if you’re looking for company, and the dates work out...
Are you looking for a place you have to hike in to, or car camp? Do you value solitude and quiet, or are you ok with hearing highway noise?
I live 10 minutes from Sand Dunes and spend a lot of time there.

Thinking of 25th - 26th. Would like not to hear highway noise Don't mind company. I could go either way on place - if car is near, I'd bring more gear to test out, if not - I'll go with equipment I know.
I work out of state and won’t be home by this weekend.
For seclusion I would hike the south orrock trail (its on the sand dunes map). Anywhere off of there sound be a little quieter than the other side of the state forest. There is a huge parking lot at the trail head.

Make sure you aren’t in the day use area on Ann Lake. No camping there except in the campground which isn’t open yet. +1 in South Orrock. Further from the highways and far from the day use area.

Well, I didn't make it to the Sand Dunes. I was able to plan a 2 night 3 day get away to the Crosby - Manitou State park up by Finland, but I received some sad news from home on day two (the passing of a good friends father) and returned early. I really enjoyed the time I had while there though - had the whole place to myself.
I'll probably hit the Dunes sometime early in April - would like to test out a new rig while the weather is still kinda cold. Thanks for the tip on the South Orrock Trail - I'll check it out for sure!
I drove the forest road last Sunday in the south Orrock area. Looked really promising. Found 2 stands of red pine near the road. Could be more further away from the road. If you get away from CR 15 I think it’ll be really quiet there. You’re a long ways from CR4
