Weight Difference - Darien vs. net-only DangerBird

The gram counter in me wants to be sure I understand the weight difference between a Darien and a net-only DangerBird. When I look through the recent build photos on the DH website it looks like the weight difference between a like-for-like Darien and DangerBird is just under 3 oz. Am I right to assume that the weight difference is just from the zipper being continuous around the hammock body so that it can be zipped back into the peak? Surely the amount of fabric for the zipper hoods adds a negligible amount of weight.

Careful. You'll find yourself building every combination you can think of. Really handy tool.

Oh yes, I have spent a good deal of time with that calculator and also the comfort rating calculator to narrow down fabric. The differences are straightforward numbers from the calculator and the recent hammocks photo page on the DH website. I guess what I am really after is if there is something beyond the numbers in how the two designs "feel"? They both have asymmetric bugnets although the zipper is different between the two. The Darien doesn't have the zipper hoods, although I believe they can be added by request. Do the zipper hoods change the support of the fabric and how the DangerBird lays, compared to the Darien?

You are correct. The weight difference is mostly due to the zipper on both sides of the DangerBird. But the zipper hoods do add a little weight as well- though not much.

I believe the Dangerbird also has peak bags and the Darien does not. Does anyone know the weight of Dream Hammocks peak bags? Since they can be removed and left at home this could reduce the weight of the Dangerbird a bit. I'm looking at these hammocks as well. Thanks

Our Peak Bag weighs .25 oz or 7 grams each. The ones used on the DangerBird are normally non-removable, but we can certainly use the removable ones upon request.
