If you are using lightweight line(around 200kgbreaking strain) i would not use a licked brummel(i dont use a locked brummel on any size now).

Sone sites say you can loose up to 35% line strength on a locked brummel.
At a 100kg load at the correct hang angle you are putting almist 100kgs strain on each end of your suspension(and im back up to 130kgs).
Thats not ecen double load on the lightweight lines which is way to low for me

I'll add that ropes made of UHMPE (Dyneema, etc.) fibers are very strong along the length of the fibers. These ropes have a loose diamond shaped weave to keep the fibers in line with the tension and take advantage of the linear strength. Giving us very strong ropes in very small diameters. A trade off (as discussed above) is that when the fibers are bent the load is no longer aligned and fibers receive compression perpendicular to their length where they are not strong. The relatively small diameter of these ropes creates small bend radii in knots exacerbating the weakening of the bent fibers.

For amsteel, I use my round point knitting needle and remove 3 strands at 4", 3", 2" from the end and then trim all 3 at once. Creates a nice smooth transition.

For zing-it, I just use the spine of my knife and smush down the end enough to fan it out, then cut it at an angle to reduce the bulk.

I don't do any tapering until I'm ready to bury to prevent fraying annoyances.

As Paul mentions above, it definitely makes burying splice easier, well worth the time it takes to taper.
It is a very alert, active sheep, with a stylish, lively carriage.

I use a Juki & Pfaffs w/ assorted attachments, and have serviced lots of vintage machines. Any questions?

Curious, what 200kg break strain line are you using for suspension?!?!

    Im not.

Others here are using 375kg and some want to push the limit even more with less than 2mm.

Kitedyne is 1.75mm and guite low breaking strain.

Others here have talked about using zing it.

I use sk75 3mm as a minimuim and thats almost unavailable here now.
Its been replaced with sk78 3mm

I use 1.5mm Stein Skyline... but only for tarp lines and SRLs!
And that has a 250kg break strain.
