Recent torrential rains on the East side of the Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex have caused flooding which has washed out or otherwise rendered impassable the roads I would have used to get access to my intended route through The Bob. The US Forest Service website makes clear the extent of road closures. (There was serious flooding in the Augusta and Choteau area generally. An outfitted group of 13 travelers was extracted by helicopter from the Scapegoat Wilderness.)

    See Here:https://www.fs.usda.gov/hlcnf

I doubt that anyone will have a clear picture of the nature and extent of trail damage for some time yet.

Based on video footage taken during the helicopter rescue, I would be amazed if there was not massive trail damage---washouts, down trees, mud- and rock-slides, and so on.

While I am not yet ready to pull the plug, I am adopting a "wait and see" posture while making other plans.

My plans lie a few weeks out, so there is at least hope for a clear report of conditions.

It is Montana, after all, and there are countless trails to hike.

    Talking Back from The Bob.

I could not have wanted better trail companions than OlTrailDog and Belle Marie.

We had a great time in The Bob, hiking down Trail 83 along the Spotted Bear River from the Silvertip TH to Dean Creek.

I am still out here in MT, on vacation, and will post a lengthier report when I get back home in a few weeks.

Congrats, and looking forward to your report!
UL, because nobody ever asks "How can I make my pack heavier?"
