    Pad plus underquilt.

Quick physics question. If I had a 20° UQ AND I used a pad does my insulation go colder as in will it protect me to a lower degree? This is intriguing to me as I haven’t yet experimented it just wanted to satisfy my aptitude.

In short, yes. Foam pads may give you condensation so have a plan for that possibilty. I use an air mattress most of the time and have never had condensation issues. But I don't go out when it gets below 30f...

For sure....the more insulation you have the warmer you will be or the cooler temps you can go down too.
Doesn't matter if its a combo of down, foam or bean bag polystyrene balls.
Mountain views are good for the soul....& getting to them is good for my waistline.
