So I got into hanging after my friends brought thier hammocks on a hike through part of the AT. I was stuck setting up my tent while they were allready setup and eating. I got into hammocks but What I have currently just isn't doing me enough so I asked about how to better my setup and he told me to come here. I use a treehugger hammock and basic webbing suspension. My tarp is a Speer 8x10 tarp kit that I made.

The webbing looks to be 1" climbing webbing, that stuff has some weight to it. I'd talk to Opie and get you some whoopies

Welcome! I am relatively new here and updating my gear based upon advice from lots of good folks at HF: got some whoopies from Opie and webbing and buckles from Paul at Arrowhead. Only problem now is I can't decide which I like better!

I am using the Speer 4 wrap and it just doesn't have the versatility or quickness of setup I want. I'm looking into rings. Whoopies look cool but I'm not sure I can tackle that just yet, maybe a weekend project.

I switch to rings first too, and then to whoopies. The rings were really 'crushing' my line. The whoopies look intimidating at first but they have advanced to the point of being hillbilly proof which implies that I am. The only challenge after ordering from Opie or others is to learn a MSH which I promise after you try a few times a 3 year old could do...so you get weight savings, less wear/tear, infinite (almost) adjustability and you get to learn a new knot (hitch)...oh and less hardware.
As far as installation, I did it on 2 blackbirds, your situation would via the Larkshead be even easier.
Also note that are lots of hangers close to you. I come to Asheville almost monthly to do tapas bar, bier garden, or shop at Earth Fair...and there is a group hang/hike near you next weekend where you can see several setups.

look into the threads on tree hugger straps and toggles; once around the tree, then clip, straighten out the strap and pop the hammock strap ovet the toggle, pull strap in the rings to desired tautness, and tie a slipped half hitch. repeat for other end.
    Hope this helps, KM

Strap preferrence? JRB Tr-Glides...way lighter than cinch buckles... No knots or lashing... Simply go around the tree and back thru the Tri-Glide... Easy as buckling ones pants.
