    It can work. I had the same situation for a couple years with my old tarp. I upgraded to a larger tarp when i was able to afford it.

    My first hammock hang a month ago I used 11ft hammock with a 10ft tarp.
    Good weather so it wasn't an issue. I think I had about 6" of coverage over the ends.
    Would have worked in rain but would have had to tightened and lowered everything.
    not worth the effort in a storm unless I had to do it.
