Just extrapolating some knowledge of an 11' hammock set up between trees that are 15' apart (generally considered to be ideal for that length of hammock). Therefore, I'm thinking that 18' would be ideal for a 12' hammock. I plugged the data into the Ultimate Hang Hammock calculator and it seems to check out. I assumed the ridgeline to be 120" which is 83% of 144", the sit height to be 18", the suspension hang point on the trees to be 80.5" (6 1/2'). All of those data points check out to be normal.
The game is the best teacher.

It is my understanding that the minimum compatible tree span of a 12’ hammock would only increase by about 83% of 1’, which is 9.96” over that of an 11’ hammock. I don’t think there is anything unexpected happening here.
