My brothers was 1.6 HyperD which is rated at 300. I believe early testing had several 325+ testers that had no issues. Going to 1.9 ripstop or 2.2 Hex is 350 and 400 respectively. Double layer Robic 1.0 is rated at 440 so there's a lot available. We haven't played with a lot of different fabrics but we both liked the feel and lay of the HyperD. It was my first hammock that I handed down.

That's the chart for RSBTR, I'm sure Dutch and the others have a similar chart available.
Any idea what kind of stretch some of the double layer, lighter fabrics have?
Also, is there a correlation betwixt a firm bed and low stretch hammocks?

RBTR 1.0 oz ROBIC is quite low-stretch even in a single layer; a double layer would be even more so.
However, low-stretch lightweight fabrics are probably also more sensitive to inadvertent shock-loading, so I would be conservative with the ratings when intending to use them for heavier hangers. I've made several single-layer hammocks from 1.0 oz ROBIC, including bridge designs, and used then all with no issues, but I only weigh 175 lbs; even so, if RBTR still offers their 1.2 oz ROBIC, I'd opt for a double layer of that if I wanted a firm, lightweight hammock for someone approaching 300 lbs.
That said, I'd build that design only if I needed to make the hammock a double layer, since a single layer of 1.7 oz ROBIC would be just as strong and 30% lighter. For DIY, the 1.7 oz ROBIC is also MUCH easier to sew...
