    StormCrow Incubator

Winter is almost over and this is the first chance I've had to spend any real time on the computer since receiving my Incubator UnderQuilt from StormCrow.

I was hoping to post before now but work interferes with life. ;-)
I am booked for the next 3 weeks, but hopefully I will have enough time then to post an actual review.

We have some clients coming in from the East coast to train in our Personal Defense / K9 CQC course, and because I sleep outside full-time they have all opted for "camping out" on the ranch with me instead of staying in hotels.
I've made provisions for everyone to sleep in hammocks but they are still bringing their expensive tents along "just in case."
One guy was a guide in Alaska, and all of them are experienced ground dwellers, so I sure hope they all experience the same comfort level that I have in a hammock, or I'll never hear the end of it!

I can give you the short version of my impressions of the Incubator right now though.

    You should buy yourself one!

I've slept in the field every night since the end of November with my Incubator rigged underneath a Claytor No-Net hammock, and with just those two pieces of gear, I have never slept this comfortable outside during the winter months!

This is my first UQ, so when I placed my order I had no idea what extra options even existed, let alone which ones I would want.
I now know precisely what I want and NEED in my next UQ, and after spending some time on the phone with him, I'm quite confident that Adam understands my job specific requirements and can produce what I want.
I'm very pleased with my current UQ and can not wait until StormCrow makes my new Incubator with the modifications I require.
I am prematurely dubbing it my "Tactical Incubator", Ha!

Quality materials and workmanship, plus competitive pricing as well as excellent customer service make this UQ a good value!

Since I won't be able to post again for a while - I'd like to say that I also love my Winter-Dream tarp!
Like the Incubator, it makes my time outside during inclement weather more enjoyable by raising my comfort level!

Also, a big Thanks goes to Arrowhead Equipment for getting my order of Amsteel, tree straps and aluminum rings out to me so fast.
That's the suspension that's going on my clients' hammocks.
    I hope they appreciate that!
    Happy hammocking!

How low of temps have you had?

I would concur. I have only had one night in the Incubator but it was very warm to the mid 20's. In fact I would say it will go lower, without a problem. I had a Sierra Sniveller on top. The full length of taostiness is pretty indulging.

Sun Dog, that's impressive to say you sleep outside full time. Does N Texas mean DFW north or Panhandle north?

Sorry, I just realized I didn't post any temps and was just coming back to post my lowest reading so far, Thanks!

Lowest indicated temp was +5, I forgot the windchill rating that night.
I'm in North Texas so no real low temps to report.

Had lots of nights below 20's this winter...with all this freaky weather.
We've had 7 winter "storms" this year with lots of wet, snowy conditions and it looks like it might snow here on Tue.
We usually only get "ice" one-two weeks a year.

I was using the Incubator and a Kelty Mistral 0 degree bag, and one old wool blanket.

Yes it's true, I still haven't totally made the transition away from wool....old habits are hard to kill.

I look forward to hearing about how your guests do, whether they feel a switch coming.

Scottybdiving, most of my friends and family use the word "nuts", but I much prefer your use of the word "impressive!"

I don't mean to give the impression that I never go inside, and sometimes due to circumstances like holidays etc. I am forced to stay in the occasional hotel or at a girlfriend's house etc., it's just that my job requires that I spend so much time outside that over the years I just kinda got used to it and prefer to sleep outside.

DFW for all K9 and CQC courses but all of our gun related courses take place in Ranger which is in West Central Texas.

I've talked materials and gear building with Stormcrow - he knows his stuff and really puts a lot of work into these quilts! And he's one heck of a nice guy to boot. You can't go wrong with an UQ from The Perfect Trees.

Awfully glad to hear that it's working well for you.

Outdoors about every night... that is impressive! I'm a little bit jealous.

Im a bit jelous too, outside ever night sounds nice, and I have to agree with ya that Adam and Scott have great customer service. Im curious about your ideas for your "tatical incubator". Cant wait to hear them. I love my Ptarmigan and when its time id suggest looking into one of Stormcrows Burrow's they are mighty warm and filled with down. I had my at the NJ hang and was nice and toasty, enjoy the new gear, I know I am.
Sometimes I like to hike and think, And sometimes I just like to hike.

Hiking is'ent about waiting for the storm to pass its about learning to hike in the rain.
