Using Thinsulate 40 material for bottom insulation in a double layered hammock

I was just noticing that SimplyLightDesings sells Thinsulate 40 material in 61" widths by the yard for $9.00. This may be a crazy idea but couldn't you simply put a layer of this insulation between the layers of a double bottom hammock and have great bottom insulation for $18.00? Seems it would be softer and more conforming that a hard pad of some kind. Thoughts?

People have tried with other soft insulation, but it will usually compress to nothing under your weight. I would pass.

I’m guessing it will insulate some, but not much.
If you try it, let us know if worked good enough for you to have it be your go2 insulation, or even part of your rig, or just for certain temperatures.
    Thanks for your new ideas.

I think you might be better off with something that takes compression better like
    https://www.gossamergear.com/collect...ht-hammock-pad

this will probably get you down to 50* but not much lower.

Ive used my 50 degree woobie instead of a pad for last couple hangs . 47 degrees last weekend and I stayed warm. My wooble is just
thin piece of apex in nylon. I have done this a couple times when son was using UQ. The first time I had issue with woobie moving around
but the next hang I layed directly on it and didn't have any issues. The thinsulate should not be any different.

I regularly use a survival/shooting blanket, folded in half inside my DL XLC. It is similar to a woobie, thinsulate backed canvas. Perfect one-season summer solution but I use a UQ under 50degrees.

For 18.00 it would certainly be worth trying even if only for a summer/early fall/late spring solution. Please keep us posted on how it works out.

Using Thinsulate 40 material for bottom insulation in a double layered hammock

I have a military casualty blanket that I am going to try as summertime bottom insulation in my DL WBRR. I have been using a Klymit V pad, but want to see if I can trim some weight.
