Looks like I'll need to up my game. What kind of distance are we talking about?

One can hike in just 2.6 miles from a Trailhead to get here. There are plenty of rules and a caretaker, but as it’s free, the rules make sense to keep everything in working order. There is a bunk room with mattresses as well as tent/hammock areas on the spur trail and behind the cabin.

Maybe you can get Nair to sponsor the rest of your trip. Monetize your thighs!

    Who wears short shorts?

Hey, the shorts help beat the heat, but the bugs have eyes for these thighs, so I’m in deet waist-to-feet.

Pic on Mount Cube. I’m approaching the part that I’ve been excited to do for as long as I’ve considered doing a thru-hike, Franconia Ridge and the Presidentials. When my Uncle thru’d the AT in 2002, I was 7, but I definitely remember thinking “huh. So THAT is what you get to do when you grow up.”

So very sweet. I've tackled the presidentials years ago via day hikes. Now that I live so far away, I've decided to get into backpacking strength as I battle through injury recovery.

My first backpacking trip a month ago gave me appreciation for the toil of lugging your "lodging, kitchen, pantry, and restroom" with you for a few days. I toiled through hip pain after the 7 mile mark to reach 9 miles. If I should be so lucky, I'd also tackle the AT thruhike some day. For now, 2.6 miles and a rulebook is totally achievable once I'm in that area again.

Do you remember your uncle's trail name when he thru hiked in 2002?
I thru hiked in 2002 as "Stumpknocker", north from March to September.

Time to tackle some 4,000 footers! First Alpine parts were awesome.

Any trail that follows a waterfall is gonna be a tough climb and descent.

Looks nasty. This is why I backed down from Mt. Moosilauke as my first backpacking trip while still out of shape. Live another day..

Looks awesome without a pack though. Keep going!
