How to Keep TQ in Hammock Without Bug Net?

Lurking a while but my first legit post.

I'm in a Dutch netless right now, and I'm wondering about how to keep my top quilt from falling out and dragging on the ground. When I'm set up inside of a bottom entry bug net, the problem takes care of itself. But when I use the hammock without a net, I'm worried about losing the quilt while I'm sleeping. Best case scenario, I have to reach out and grab it. Worst case scenario, it sits in a puddle for hours before I realize what happened.

Does it make sense to have some light shock cord "safety lines" clipped to the ridgeline? What does everyone else do?

    Thanks.

Knotty mod on the corner where your feet go. Or you could sew on a triangle piece of fabric there also with a knotty mod on that if your hammock seems too narrow. Knotty mod is simply shock cord running through the hemmed edge with cinching hardware to adjust tension.

I have seen this question a number of times and even with many nights in a netless hammock, I have yet to have the top quilt jump out of the hammock when I am in it. Unless it's very warm the quilt is tucked in at my shoulders and often hips and my feet are in the foot box all holding the TQ in place. More often than not as I turn over I am then having to pull it out from under me. And if it were to jump out I think I would feel the chill and wake up almost immediately.

Now jumping out when I sit down in the hammock or get up sure but not when sleeping.

Another idea is you could get an UQ, they do a great job at creating a footbox automatically.

I'm with pgibson. The only time I ever have issues is when I'm getting out. Of course, I've discovered that, unlike at home in a bed, I NEVER move in hammock. I've even quit taking my glasses off at night. I guess if you toss and turn it would be more of an issue.

Thanks for the super fast replies. I'm probably making something out of nothing. "Packing my fears" as it were...

I've got the knotty mod, but I'm finding that I don't really like the confined feeling. Same goes with the UQ suspension. I dislike the shock cord running under/over/across my feet, so I have now fully embraced the clew suspension.

And I can see where a TQ "trampolining" out of the hammock would not be a big deal. I'm sure any quality quilt can shrug off a 5 second rule on wet ground.

    Thanks again for everyone's input.

One of the reasons I like and use a integrated netted hammock is because it keeps my TQ in my hammock where it belongs.

I don't store my TQ in my hammock when I use it as a chair. I hang it over my RL and only take it down when it is time for bed.

I stuff it loosely back into my pack liner after a little fluffing, so it’s protected from the elements.
