Places to hang along Cottonwood Creek west of Buena Vista, CO

A friend and I are planning a trip to climb Mount Harvard and Mount Columbia next month. Our plan is to base camp along Cottonwood Creek or Horn Fork Creek, SSW of Mount Columbia, along the trail before the split to go up Columbia's SW face. I have not been to this particular area before and have been trying to find information on whether there are good trees to hang from in the area or is it just scrub? Pictures I see on 14ers.com look like there will be places to hang, but a local perspective would be nice to have. Otherwise, I will hang my head and bring my tent. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Should be plenty of lodge pole pines. Aspens not the greatest tree to hang from but can do in a pinch. I am going that direction on the July 5th. Awesome area to visit

Be aware that Cottonwood Pass is closed this year (they're paving it). I'm not sure where Cottonwood Creek is in relation to it, but keep it in mind.

Thanks for the info. From what I can find, CR306/Cottonwood Pass is closed at Avalanche TH. Our plan is to take CR350 out of Buena Vista to North Cottonwood Creek TH.

Before you get to BV, stop by Salida Mountain Sports in Salida and ask the crew there about hanging opportunities at North Cottonwood Creek. Although I only know of a few hangers there, but they all know the area trails very well and could help you out with local intel.

Based on a satellite view of the North Cottonwood Creek trailhead area I don't think you will have a problem finding a good hang spot.
