No bikes(or horses) allowed on these trails. Foot traffic only thru this part of Ocala National Forest. It sure would be a challenge to bike in with all the dead falls and overgrowth into the trails.

And don't forget the ticks on that overgrowth just waiting for you to brush on bye. Don't forget your Permethrin, Picaridin, flamethrower, or other anti-tick/chigger treatment.

FLHanger, you forgot to mention the sugar sand, the heart breaking point of many hikers into Hidden Pond.

Yeeeaaaaahh. About that.....Although the hike from any of the 3 directions is not a long or hard technical hike, the heat and sometimes lack of breeze can push you over the edge if you get to a point where the sun has baked all humidity out of that sugar sand. If you're lucky enough(rain) and/or leave the trailhead early enough, it's hard(ish) packed dirt and not too terrible.

But yeah, that sugar sand can suck the life out of your soul.

For sure. I made the mistake of hiking the Prairie in the summer once. Needless to say I only made it from Juniper rec area to Hopkins prairie when I decided I had enough.

Truth be told, I have had a number of times on this hang where I woke up shivering just like O-Boy said.

It's strange how in July in Florida, a person can go to bed a little warm and because of the cooling effects of a hammock, wake up cold and not just CBS, but an all over cold. The "feel like" temps seem to be in the 60's when it's low to mid 70's with a breeze.

It's worth setting up the UQ and pushing it to one side and ready to deploy at 3am.

double tap: Hidden Pond Short, Fri-Sun, 6ish pm
    O-Boy: Pat's Island, Fri-Sun, 9-10a
    j-Fish: ?, Sat-Sun, sometime in am
Cooloz91: Hidden Pond Short, Fri-Sun, 9a-12p(almost AC repairman/cable guy timing)
Gravy: Hidden Pond Short, Fri-Sat, morning
