    Tarp Sock

Ordered a 12' tarp from ugqoutdoor.com for my DreamHammock (love it). After several outings in the woods I noticed the extra time it takes in the rain to gather the tarp and put in the stuff sack so I began looking at different socks. After hours of research there seemed to be a consensus that a one piece sock is preferred over the typical 2 piece that bunches in the middle. Having said that, I couldn't find many companies selling a sock for a 12' tarp until I found a cottage company called MountainGoat at Outdoortrailgear.com. Kat custom makes these sleeves in 11' and 12' in a one piece. Used it this past weekend in the rain AND in 5 seconds I had my tarp in the sleeve and in 30 seconds stuffed in the stuff sack. Not only can you put the tarp in the sock within seconds but you can hang the tarp in the sleeve just in case it rains but still view the stars! Highly recommended!!!

+1 for Mountain Goat! I happen to have the two-piece version and love it. She's one you can count on. I hope she gets as much business as she can handle.

Yes tarp skins make a big difference in deployment and pack up time. The same idea works very good for your hammock too. I keep my underquilt, top quilt, hammock and pillow and generally my winter sock all together, simply wrap a cord around the middle to hold it in place and then stuff it a bishop bag. Once your suspension is up you can literally deploy your whole set up in about 10 seconds and as long as you haven't changed anything there's no reason to fiddle with your underquilt or anything like that. Then it takes about a minute or two to pack it all away once you get the hang of it. And they do make an actual lazy slug tube, which is basically an oversized hammock skin that will Encompass everything. I started out with a DYI version but have sense change to just a bungee around the middle to hold everything together while I stuff.
By all means, let's argue about whether or not a hammock will hurt a tree. All the while ignoring the fact that there is an island of garbage the size of Texas floating in the Pacific ocean. Or how about the fact that over 75% of the world's nuclear reactors are leaking...

    Tarp Sock

I love mine from hammock gear. I got the mesh one. wet tarps go into the sleeve and get strapped to the outside of my pack.

you can get them in other materials too I believe.

My biggest beef with a tarp sock is that it doesn't pack up very efficiently in the CF versions. It seems like CF in general has to be very cleanly folded or else it just take up a ton of space compared to silnylon, which you can pack into a ball very easily.
