I've been using a version of the quarter weight bug net for a couple of years. It works OK but sometimes skeeters get in when the wind blows the hanging sides over and it opens up a gap. Any tips from users of this type of bug net ?

Add larger pockets to it so you can put loose gear or anything laying around the campsite - that ought to weight it down a lot better than a little quarter. Plus, this way you're not carrying around the extra weight of quarters, or - at least you can go ahead and spend those quarters on a soda when you get to town.

Thanks, guys. I'll try both of those suggestions.

my "quarter weight" bugnet is really thin walmart ripstop, but I only use weights on the head end, and in the middle. The foot-end is velcro closed.
Mine's totally free-floating, and not sewn to the hammock, either. I keep it in place by sewing 4 velcro loops down the middle, and hang it over the ridgeline. The velcro loops wrap around the ridgeline and allow me to push it down to my feet. A clothes pin keeps it tight and from sliding down.
I was thinking a few of those exotic magnets they are scavenging out of dead hard-drives might be used instead of coins- they would hold together underneath, and not be too dificult to separate when you need to get out.
The magnets you're talking about are called rare earth magnets. You can get them in all types of sizes, and they have a lot of strength. You I have two coin shaped ones stuck to my desk that are about as thick as a quarter and are about the same diameter as a Bic pen cap opening. They would do the trick.
I've ordered from this site before, but there are many others that also sell them.

I'd recommend some Axially Magnetized, like this:

These have a strong pull. Read the safety info on them before buying.
They are the refrigerator magnets from hell. I got mine from Lee Valley.

I've thought about those, but if they're as strong as they claim, is there a chance that the fabric or netting would rip before the magnets came apart?
