    Last year friends and I summited Katahdin that same weekend, then did some whitewater rafting on the Penobscot...I will say be prepared for snow. It is a possibility that time of year. In fact we met a few awesome Canadian mothers who were able to get out and let loose for a bit and they submitted Katahdin the day earlier - showed us video and the wind was whipping with some snow. Then the next day for our summit the weather was beautiful but windy.

    Having said that. That was going to be one of my suggestions. Another would be the Katahdin Iron Works. Both great choices.
