    Washing a hammock

Sorry if this was asked, and answered somewhere...it did not come up in the sesrch. What is the recommended process for washing a nylon/parachute hammock? I just got back from a backpack trip and my hammock was soaked with sweat. It is a Tribe Provision single hammock, but would like to also wash my EGO and Grand Trunk also. I have a new hammock coming from Dutch tomorrow. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Those of you with YouTube channels, if you could post a bow to video on this, it would be great...I also search there too.

Hand wash with a mild detergent or dawn dish soap works well, hang to dry!

Swish it around in the bathtub, shake, and hang dry.

Washing machine is fine. If worried, remove what you can and use delicate cycle. No biggie.

    I hand washed my ENO.
Machine washed my second hammock on gentle cycle with Gear Aid Tech Soap.

I took my BLACKBIRD appart to wash it. i took it apart to get out the grime and besure it dried all the way.

Guess what? War Bonnet has a pattented way of pleating the Blackbirds! I had to send both BIRDS back to Warbonnet outdoors to be restored to their original configuration.

So What I now know is that some gathered end quilts are put together in a certain way. So if you take them apart, even if you are careful, they might not lay the same way.
I wash but just hang to dry no more opening out the entire hammock.
So far my hammocks feel great after a wash. I was embarrassed how much silt washed out!

I machine wash mine on the gentle cycle, in one of those mesh lingerie bags.

I have been machine washing all my hammocks in the past 8 years. In the normal warm cycle, not even delicate. They are all in great shape. If you're not using a frontloader, I would put the hammock in a bag (I'm simply using sleeping bag storage bags for that purpose) to avoid stressing the fabric or bug netting when it wraps around the middle pole of the machine.

I use a 2g bucket and some woolite. Just squish it around, then rinse. They can definitely get grody from sweat, but I'm always amazed at how much silt and dust comes out.

    Washing a hammock

A while back someone on this forum suggested putting the hammock in a mesh laundry bag and washing it on the delicate setting. I’ve been doing that with all myhammocks now for about a year, and haven’t noticed any issues.

Sometimes regular detergent only masks but doesn’t get rid of the smell. You notice this when a clean hammock start smelling again after just one use. In situations like this I dunk the hammock in Myrazime or Sink The Stink solution for about an hour, and hang it out to dry. It works like a charm.
