    Learning is fiddly.

I was a beginner not all that long ago and learned to use the search function. Still do as I occasionally encounter things I don't know.

If someone is truly interested in a topic, at some point he/she will have to put in a little effort to learn the acronyms and new terms that are unique to his/her new hobby. If somebody considers a larkshead an esoteric knot, the journey is going to be difficult but still not impossible.

Back to the OP, however, simply adding a dog bone to his existing setup hardly complicates matters.

I just switched all my straps to Evo Loops... I was using Grappler Hitch. I like the Evo Loops!!

I always carry one 15' strap, and a shorter one...just in case.

I also carry an 8' hugger, because it makes me feel good about myself

lol, I just bought a pair of 2" kevlar huggers because I've got a trip coming up in Sept to an area that requires them (Baxter!).

The 2 inch "simple straps" from strapworks showed up yesterday. Not a bad price and will satisfy any 2 inch strap requirements.

The ones I got from Dutch aren't cheap but they're pretty lightweight, 38.8g for a pair of 5-footers.

I am now mulling over ways to 'hybridize' the setup and keep it extremely light by using Amsteel on the hammock end of the setup. J-bend and Becket work with Amsteel-on-Amsteel.

Sort of what I have in mind, but with 1" kevlar: Kevlar_Amsteel_hybrid_01.jpg

After 6 years of never running short, I always trim my new 12' straps to about 11'. Not a huge savings, just a mind game.

A better use for "too long" straps than letting them dangle: how about an extra wrap around the tree? Doesn't always work of course. Sometimes only works on one of the trees.
