How long does it take before you put your hammock up correctly the first time?

I went on a camping trip this weekend and I STILL can't seem to get the suspension placement where it's supposed to be the first try.

I've only been out 7 or 8 times (the rest have been on stands or wall anchors), but this weekend I put up 5 hammocks and after getting the strap around the tree, I still had to make adjustments.

Every time, the strap vs either the dutch clip or the chain loop or the carabiner were in the wrong place and I had to slide the strap around the tree to get it right. Every time, I had to adjust the length after I thought I had it correct. Am I just expecting too much of myself? Does everyone have to fiddle with their suspension to get it correct every single time?

    Thanks,
    Dave

It gets easier with time but then there are times it takes two or three tries. No worries though as it's all good in the woods.

That is part of the hammock life. I think I have only ever hung mine a couple of times backpacking where I never had to make any adjustments.
I see it as part of the fun of hammocks.

That's why I like whoopies. Super quick and easy to adjust. And now with my new adutchable clips and huggers, it should be even easier.

I DO like Adutchables. Waiting for the 2" version, even if it's in aluminum.

I would think that since no 2 sets of trees will be the same, and they are never gonna be perfectly spaced apart, you will almost always need to adjust something somewhere

I don't see much difference between two minutes and three minutes of setup time. I'm not in a hurry anyway!

This weekend I had to hang the tarp first because of torrential rain - I hardly ever have to do that. It took me a couple of minutes longer. I had to pull the stakes and move the tarp a couple of times, but it still didn't take much time.

Sometimes I get it right first time, but it's rare. Usually I have to do some combination of moving the straps up or down, plus shortening or lengthening the suspension. Most of the time I'll get it right on the second or third try.

Like the others said, making some adjustments is normal. I will set up my hammock to where I think it should be and then sit in to make sure I don't have it too low. I usually have to raise it a few inches a couple of times to get it where I want it. All part of the set up.

If you do set it up too low and have problems getting out of you hammock....put your feet on the ground while sitting in your hammock and walk backwards until you can stand up.

Iíve got setup anywhere from five minutes to thirty minutes or more especially if switching trees.
No one will grade you on your time or quality of setupó-except you.
No one knows exactly when it might rainó
Itís a plus, for you, if you can pitch tarp first and in short order.
Have fun tinkering with your hammock.
