I've been lurking around here for a few months now and figured I better post an intro. I am a Scoutmaster for a local troop here in Baraboo WI by night (who am I kidding. That's almost a full time job sometimes.) and a Project Engineer for Flambeau Inc. by day. I have been involved in scouting in one way or another for 12-15 years after being away for a while after I got my Eagle. My first experience camping in a hammock was about 9 years ago when I volunteered to go with a troop on a week long trip to Voyagers National Park in northern MN. I have struggled with lower back problems from years of construction abuse so I knew I would not last sleeping on the ground so I checked out a tutorial on how to make a whipped end hammock and haven't gone to ground since.
After NickoftheWoods came and did a presentation for my troop on winter camping late last winter I was introduced to the new to me concept of UQ and TQ insulation. I have since made a Gemini style quilt set but plan to do a better DIY UQ before this winter camping season starts, which could happen some time in the next 3 months here in Wisconsin.
I have really enjoyed reading through some of the posts here and have learned quite a bit from you all and have improved my hang significantly. My next new thing is a DIY tablecloth hammock (tablecloth just arrived today) with UCR suspension. I have played around with whoopies on a few hangs and now want to try a UCR to see which I like better.
I'm looking forward to learning more from you all with the hopes of contributing someday and maybe meeting some at a group hang sometime.
