Highstrung I know how you feel bro
I have a fear of tree's falling on me...i was hiking in the woods i would say about 7 years ago and a tree almost fell on me...landed a few feet away...and i'm talking about A TREE...since then if the wind picks up and i'm out in the woods i start to get that feeling from the fear...and i jump at every sound of limbs breaking
i'm getting better with it...but ever since that day i feel like that tree is right there...behind me
during hunting season if it's windy i won't go...there is no way i'm climbing in my treestand on a windy day LOL
it's not so bad if i'm hiking with someone...but when i'm alone...it gets to me
Odd fear to have for a Hammocker
It puts the Underquilt on it's hammock ... It does this whenever it gets cold
Way to go, you did it yourself-needed no help from anybody.
You should join the US Army and volunteer for the Airborne, they'll help you with your fear of heights...at night even.
Good story. We all make some of these decisions in our lives and most of us live to tell the tale and grow from it as you did. Good on ya. Sugoi.
Fear clouds our reality
like clouds on a mountain obscure the view.
When we remove the clouds
the way is clear

If I didn't hike solo I'd never get to hike.
my problem is i don't fear situations enough. i take things too lightly . this is a good lesson learned.
Too true, and probably for a lot of folks here. The type of person who likes to hike, generally likes the solitude. Voila!... solo hikers.
How many folks here treat other things in their lives in the same manner?
I learned to ride a motorcycle by just getting on and GOING. (DUMB)
Almost: got hit by a truck
hit a small "pack" of deer (they weren't a herd... herds are
peaceful. packs hunt you out)
went off the road & down a loooong steep hill, into a stream. missed by maybe 6"?
Did: drop the bike on my leg.
Highstrung, I'm glad you're with us and lived to tell your tale. "With age comes wisdom"... so many of us are only old cuz we're lucky.
So the question is, how many HF members here recognize this trait not just in camping, but in the rest of their life as well?
Thanks for sharing an awesome story! I always try to be extra careful when out solo but it never fails I always end up facing some kind of a personal test. Fortunately, I've passed so far.
